------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have lived in SE Portland since 2003. I share a home with my husband, our 3 kids, 2 dogs, goldfish and chickens (though the hens stay outside!). Our kids are currently 4th &5th graders at Abernethy Elementary School, with our 5th grade twins moving to Winterhaven and Hosford Middle Schools in the fall.
I am a naturalized US citizen, taking the oath in January 2017 and voting in every election since then. Each election cycle, I drive ballots for neighbors who can't get to the ballot box. It is my joy to see our community weighing in on important election issues and candidates. I believe using our voice at the ballot box is powerful.
I am a lawyer, a public defender for 20 years. I have spent my career representing clients in the court system and children and parents involved in the foster care system. I have never shied away from advocating for children and talking about hard stuff ... and I never will.
I have coached Mt. Tabor grrrrrls** soccer for 4 years / 8 seasons, and am a volunteer OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) coach for 3 teams. I am chair of our PTA's mini-grant committee and I organize our school's winter coat drive for kids throughout PPS. Our family and I are members of our school's bike bus, and my 5th graders are on the school's early morning Safety Patrol to help pedestrians get safely across streets. I volunteer as the parent liaison to our school's environmental club. I have taught "Know Your Rights" classes to PPS high schoolers, I volunteer as a judge for Cleveland high school Constitution Team each year, and volunteer to judge Regional and State OBOB competitions in and around Portland. And I'm a founding member of a beautiful non-profit organization called Fences for Fido (www.fencesforfido.org). My husband and I have been very involved with Path Home (fka Portland Homeless Family Solutions) for over 20 years.
I believe:
I believe that kids being kids - at all developmental ages - is fundamental to our society.
Community is everything to me, and advocating for kids is what makes me, well, me!
** this is not a typo. Not all of my players use she/her pronouns and I coach a group of fierce grrrrrls.
